Analog Devices Inc. ADuM4135 High-Voltage Isolated IGBT Gate Driver IC

Analog Devices ADuM4135 High-Voltage Isolated Gate Driver is an optimized single-channel gate driver for insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs). Based on Analog Devices iCoupler® technology, ADuM4135 provides isolation from the input signal and the output gate drive.

The ADuM4135 gate driver includes a miller clamp to offer robust IGBT turn-off with a single rail supply when the gate voltage drops below 2V. Designers can operate using unipolar or bipolar secondary supplies with or without the miller clamp operation.

The chip-scale transformers offer isolated communication of control information from the high voltage and low voltage domains of the chip. Dedicated outputs allow information on the status of the chip to be read back. Designed with common IGBT threshold levels in mind, the secondary UVLO is set to 11V.

An integrated desaturation detection circuit protects against high voltage short-circuit IGBT operation. The device's desaturation protection includes noise-reducing features such as a 300ns masking time after switching event to mask voltage spikes due to initial turn-on.

ADuM4135's internal 500µA current source allows for a low part count; however, the internal blanking switch enables the addition of an external current source if more noise immunity is required.
