Vishay Optical Sensor portfolio includes reflective, transmissive, and ambient light sensors. These feature either analog or digital output. Reflective and transmissive sensors are typically used to detect the presence of an object, and to determine its directional motion and speed. Ambient light sensors are used to measure the environment’s light level. VCNL Proximity & Ambient Light Sensors

Vishay Semiconductors VCNL Proximity and Ambient Light Sensors are optical sensors, each combining an IR emitter, PIN photodiode, ambient light detector, signal processing IC, with 16-bit resolution, and an I²C interface. These features are integrated to greatly simplify window and sensor placement, PCB layout, and communication functions in a wide variety of consumer and industrial applications. The combination of the proximity sensor, ambient light sensor, and infrared emitter into a single component not only simplifies the design-in process by making a mechanical barrier unnecessary but also virtually eliminates optical cross-talk in smartphones.

VCNL4200 Proximity up to 1.5 Meters and ALS

Vishay Semiconductors VCNL4200 Proximity up to 1.5 Meters and Ambient Light Sensor with I²C Interface combines a 940nm infrared emitter (IRED), ambient light sensor (ALS), and a long-distance high-sensitivity proximity sensor (PS). Using a CMOS process, the VCNL4200 sensor incorporates photodiodes, amplifiers and analogue/digital converter circuits into a single chip. Superior sensing capabilities, with a sufficient selection to fulfil most applications, are available through the 16-bit high-resolution ALS. The ALS and PS functions are operated through the simple command format of the I²C interface protocol.
